West Moves to New Exton Headquarters
West Moves in to New Exton, Pennsylvania, Headquarters
In December, the new West headquarters building located in Exton, Pennsylvania, opened for business. It took two years and an extended team of experts to design and build the energy-efficient, 161,000 sq. ft. headquarters, which is now home to more than 400 employees. The building is also home to new, state-of-the art laboratory facilities, where West Analytical Services conducts a variety of tests for internal and external customers across the globe, including raw materials testing, validation support, extractable and leachable testing, and packaging and administration systems testing. The facility also houses the Research and Development Laboratories supporting both the Pharmaceutical Packaging Services and Pharmaceutical Delivery Systems divisions in the continued development of products to support a healthier world. Designed to provide a progressive and professional atmosphere, the new headquarters offers an open and inviting work environment where colleagues can collaborate, build relationships and increase responsiveness.
“The design of the new building is having a positive effect on our culture and our performance,” said Brian Stocker, Vice President, Human Resources, Western Hemisphere. “We’re very proud to have such a facility in which our customers, employees and visitors can do business.”
The facility includes a 27,350 sq. ft. wing housing research, development and analytical laboratories, with 1,700 sq. ft. dedicated to cleanroom capabilities. There are three cleanroom suite classifications on site, ISO 7 (Class 10,000), ISO 6 (Class 1000) and ISO 5 (Class 100). The cleanroom suite environments have fully automated monitoring systems that assure the concentrations of airborne particles within each suite are meeting specification for the designated ISO classification. The rooms are also continuously monitored for pressure, temperature and relative humidity.
The Concept R&D Center and Laboratories is a fully functional, small-scale manufacturing facility. Its capabilities include development of thermoset and thermoplastic elastomeric formulations; prototype compression and injection molding tooling and component manufacturing for rubber, TPE and plastic; and lab scale coating equipment. The laboratory space is also able to perform compliance and physical testing, including shelf-life testing using accelerated conditions in controlled chambers as well as device and packaging development testing.
