West is pleased to announce that the company has received the 2017 “Supplier of the Year in Quality Award” from long-time customer, Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS). The award is based on West’s excellent performance in quality, along with our flawless quality track record and responsiveness with diligent site engagement.
Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS), traditionally known as a pharmaceutical company, has recently transitioned to being primarily a biopharmaceutical company. BMS has begun exclusively manufacturing biologic products at the Manatí, Puerto Rico site, and has partnered with West for elastomeric components. West supplies Daikyo stoppers for many of BMS’s key biologic products, such as Opdivo and Yervoy. The components receive Westar® processing at West’s Jersey Shore, PA facility. West is pleased to provide the highest quality products and services to BMS, and to work by their side to improve the lives of patients around the world.

<p>On March 18, 2014, West CEO Don Morel was the keynote speaker for the Beacon of Hope dinner held to celebrate the United Way of the Kearney (Nebraska) Area’s 50th anniversary. More than 200 attendees were on hand to help celebrate, and to hear stories of West’ philanthropy, which included a $25,000 donation from West to help the United Way reach its 2014 campaign goal.</p>
On May 4, 2016, team members in West’s Eschweiler, Germany site launched their West without Borders (WWB) campaign for the year.
<span>Before an injectable biologic can be formulated and manufactured, an extensive series of pre-formulation checks are necessary to ensure that developers avoid formulating an unstable, non-viable product¹. Developers must determine whether the injectable biologic will break down within the intended formulation or the manufacturing process. The drug must be thermally stable, possibly resistant to oxidation, tolerate variations in light, and other environmental stresses placed on it during manufacturing and packaging.</span>
According to the Code of Federal Regulations Title 21 Food and Drugs Part 211.94(a) Subpart E Control of Components and Drug Product Containers and Closures, drug containers must not react or add to a drug product in a way that alters the drug’s safety or quality.
