Prefilled syringes, and prefilled syringes with auto-injectors, continue to dominate the landscape. However, there has been an uptick in the evaluation and use of cartridges in on-body injector systems. The growth of these kinds of products reinforces the need for solutions to deliver larger volumes of biologic products to patients in a simplified manner. The trend from intravenous administration to subcutaneous administration helps to facilitate this patient-friendly option.

Recently, the West China Commercial Team visited one of our major local customers, Wuxi Biologics, and hosted its first large-scale on-site customer event, “Innovation Day.” As one of our major local customers, Wuxi Biologics is a leading company in China’s prosperous biopharmaceutical industry. The event drew over 140 participants and expanded our strategic collaboration, which will help us further support Wuxi Biologics with their specific drug development needs.

West had the opportunity to participate in a Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology (GETT) educational video series in February. GETT began in Chester County, PA in 2001 in response to the under-representation of young women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields. GETT is an initiative of the Innovative Technology Action Group (ITAG), a program under the Chester County Economic Development Council, driven by the volunteer efforts of local organizations.

The West Generics team recently hosted a virtual panel event featuring experts from pharmaceutical, supply chain and consulting backgrounds to discuss the trends, pressure points and best practices around generics with a goal of shared understanding around a growing market.

On November 6, 2020, West’s Regulatory Affairs Senior Director, Lynn Lundy, presented at the 2020 ISPE (International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering) Annual Meeting and Expo. The week-long virtual meeting focused on steering the future of pharmaceutical science and manufacturing toward a more global, synchronized, and quality-driven industry. Pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical professionals from drug manufacturing, supply chain, devices and equipment and services, and global regulatory agencies were in attendance to discuss hot topics such as Data Integrity, Covid-19 Impact, Combination Products and more.
