West Celebrates 90 Years of Healthcare Innovation

On April 14, 2013, West celebrated its 90th anniversary. This landmark occasion commemorates our long history of working side-by-side with top pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies around the globe to meet the biggest challenges in delivering life-changing therapies safely and effectively to patients.

Every day, more than 90 million West components are used around the world, from vaccines to at-home drug administration, to injections in hospitals and other healthcare settings. Since West’s founding in 1923 by Herman O. West, collaboration, innovation and partnership have been in the company’s DNA.  Leveraging 90 years of experience, West works collaboratively with the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries to understand their needs, navigate the global regulatory landscape, and help design and manufacture packaging and drug delivery systems to bring safe, effective drugs from concept to the patient.

“As we commemorate our company’s 90th year of serving healthcare markets, we look back with pride on the role West has played helping deliver drugs safely to patients around the world,” said Donald E. Morel, Jr., Ph.D., Chairman and CEO. “From packaging systems that enabled the wide-spread distribution of drugs such as insulin and penicillin to innovations that enable the administration of today’s biologic drugs, West has been and will continue to be by the side of our pharmaceutical customers and patients for a healthier world.”

In addition to the company’s dedication to helping deliver life-saving therapies, West has made philanthropy a key priority. Each year, West employees around the world donate their time and money to assisting children and families in need.  In 2012 alone, contributions to various organizations around the world exceeded $600,000 for organizations dedicated to caring for children in the many communities where West employees live and work.
