For the tenth consecutive year, teams from West Pharmaceutical Services are raising funds to support research at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. With the support of our families, friends and neighbors, the West team has raised nearly $1 million for Fox Chase since 2004.
The fund raising campaign culminates with our participation in the Philadelphia International Dragon Boat Festival, which will be contested on October 5 this year. Our dragon boat teams are paddled by some 50 volunteers, primarily West employees and their family members, who raise funds through sponsorships. All of our fund raising pledges and donations go directly to Fox Chase. As an added bonus, the Herman O. West Foundation makes a dollar-for-dollar matching contribution.
In addition to the race, this year’s fundraising events including raffles, bake sales and a few surprises.
“We are quite fortunate to have a world-class cancer research and treatment center in our area,” said Don Morel, Chairman and CEO. “Many members of the West team and their families have benefited from treatment at Fox Chase. Our support of Fox Chase over the years is in the spirit of West’s corporate values and mission. We are truly by the patients’ side and we look forward to participating in the Dragon Boat festival this year.”

Subvisible particulates (defined as those in the 0.1-10 micron range) are a growing concern for injectable drug manufacturers. The particles may cause aggregation, which can impact the drug product and create a potential safety risk for the patient. To help ensure product quality, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recommends that manufacturers gain a better understanding of how subvisible particles impact the drug.

The civil association, which was suggested by employee Christian Jimenez, provides support and services to those suffering from mental illness.
