Making Good: Our Commitment to Care

A Letter From Barbara O’Neill
Global Director of West’s Corporate Sustainability Team

As the newly appointed Global Director of West’s Corporate Sustainability Team, I am delighted to share with you West Pharmaceutical Services’ annual Corporate Sustainability Report for 2024.

This report shows our continued dedication to sustainability and responsible corporate citizenship. With the constantly evolving landscape of global health and environmental challenges, our commitment to improving patients’ lives remains steadfast and central to West’s mission, vision and values.

Reflecting on the achievements highlighted in our previous reports, we are proud of the strong foundation we have built to advance our sustainability and social commitments. In 2024 we made significant progress across key areas, setting a high standard for performance and impact for 2025 and beyond. We ended 2024 on a high note, strengthening our foundation and positioning ourselves to focus on the ambitious goals that lie ahead. We are energized by the opportunity to achieve — and surpass — our 2030 objectives, as we continue to drive meaningful value for West, our stakeholders and the communities we serve.

Building on this momentum and aligning closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, we continue to work with our cross-functional Corporate Sustainability Steering Committee.

This committee, established in 2022 and comprised of leaders from all business functions, drives West’s corporate sustainability strategy. It is guided by a stakeholder-centric approach that considers the needs and interests of shareholders, employees, customers, patients, vendors, regulators and communities to drive corporate sustainability strategy.

Six key areas have been identified by the Corporate Sustainability Steering Committee for targeted improvement by 2030:

1. Climate, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and renewable energy

2. Environmentally-focused research and development

3. Operational waste and water reduction

4. Sustainable, diverse and responsible supply chain

5. Talent attraction focusing on people managers and inclusion

6. Team member retention and engagement

These six areas are critical, and West is committed to making lasting positive inroads into each. As we execute our strategy, the data collected will be rigorously evaluated and communicated to our stakeholders regularly.

A crucial element of our strategy is our enhanced focus on education and collaboration. Collaborative partnerships with our customers have been particularly beneficial as we leverage their insights and align our efforts to bolster sustainable practices across the enterprise.

This year, we are proud to have earned recognition for our sustainability efforts, including an AA rating from MSCI and strong Environmental and Social Quality Scores from ISS Corporate Solutions.

As we surpass previous targets and set new goals, our commitment to expanding transparency and enhancing public reporting is stronger than ever. We are proud to be progressing toward validation of our emissions targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), aligned with the 1.5°C scenario, a milestone we expect to achieve later in 2025.

In parallel, we are focused on achieving compliance with evolving global regulations while advancing our strategy. We are excited about the future and confident that our continued efforts will help create a more sustainable, equitable and thriving world for all.
