On December 1, 2013, revisions to USP Ch. <1> Injections, Labeling on Ferrules and Cap Overseals will go into effect for all drug products sold in the United States, including veterinary products. Now is the time to ensure that your product packaging is compliant.
The revision places limits on what drug manufacturers can print or otherwise display on the top surface of cap overseals and ferrules (aluminum shells) used to secure injectable drug vials. No printing or information displayed on caps or seals will be grandfathered by the revised chapter. So although your printing or labeling may have been approved in the past, you need to make sure that it is in compliance with the new details of the standard.
Act now to ensure that your supply chain is not interrupted. Contact your West Account Services Representative or Account Manager to request a new item and specification as needed.

Last month, interns from Exton and the Washington, New Jersey Innovation Center, journeyed to West’s Jersey Shore manufacturing plant—that everyone soon learned was not at the beach. The visit provided an ideal opportunity to witness the operations of West’s manufacturing business. Upon arrival, interns completed the gowning process in order to adhere to the plant’s safety and quality standards. The idea of establishing a rubber manufacturing company was born during a visit by the purchasing manager of the penicillin factory, Chemie Grunenthal in Stolberg. He asked whether I could produce rubber stoppers for penicillin bottles. I did some research and realized rubber stoppers were needed for lots of different types of medicine and there wasn’t currently a company specializing in this field.

The week-long virtual meeting focused on steering the future of pharmaceutical science and manufacturing toward a more global, synchronized, and quality-driven industry. Pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical professionals from drug manufacturing, supply chain, devices and equipment and services, and global regulatory agencies were in attendance to discuss hot topics such as Data Integrity, Covid-19 Impact, Combination Products and more.
