For the second consecutive year since its inception, a total of 91 West employees rose to the challenge and participated in the actimonda Business Run on May 15 in Aachen, Germany.
They ran for a charitable cause to raise much needed funds for the organization “FortSchritt,” which offers conductive education to children and young adults with movement disorders. The efforts paid off. Our avid runners secured three trophies (first place in company ranking, first place for most creative team name and first place for most creative team outfit). A total of €2,730 was generated, which will be donated to FortSchritt. Thanks to all participants and spectators for making this happen!
Biosimilar development and approvals have been accelerated over the last several years. The rapid uptake in this category is due in large part to clarity on regulatory pathways that demonstrate interchangeability with the reference product and key patent expiry over the next decade. The first is as primary packaging by assuring that there is no adverse effect on the identity, strength, quality, purity or potency of the drug over its shelf life. I am the Head of Procurement for Civica, one of West’s customers. <br />Civica is working to solve two big problems in U.S. healthcare - drug shortages and predatory pricing. Our mission is to ensure quality generic and biosimilar medications are available and affordable to everyone.
Barriers are very important for drug packaging systems. There are two roles demanded of a barrier. The first is to protect drug products from the environment. This is the primary function of a drug container closure system. The second is to prevent drug products from interacting with the packaging materials themselves. Elastomer closure manufacturers have been working to improve these barriers through multiple technologies. The technologies used on commercial products are traditional coating, and film lamination. Each has pros and cons.
