Leaders in the pharmaceutical industry are expecting rapid growth in the near future. To proactively equip the company for these changes, West recently organized a Leaders Round Table in Ahmedabad, India.
“As we strive to be a market-led organization, it is vitally important that we enhance our understanding of the customers’ perspective,” said Mark Lawler, VP, Sales and Marketing, Asia Pacific. “The round table meeting enabled us to interact with a broad range of industry leaders to hear more about trends and issues they are experiencing.”
Mark, along with Sok Tiang Koh, VP, Scientific Affairs and TCS, Asia Pacific and Diane Paskiet, Director, Scientific Affairs, presented at the meeting that focused on major topics surrounding packaging for injectable pharmaceuticals. Other participants included leaders from West R&D, Packaging, Regulatory and Operations functions and distinguished guests from leading, multi-national injectable pharma companies.
There was a particular focus on key topics relevant to the Indian Pharma industry. The major topics discussed were:

The FDA recognizes that compounded drugs serve an important role for patients whose medical needs cannot be met by FDA-approved drugs. However, compounded drugs are not approved by the FDA and therefore, have not been evaluated for safety or efficacy. Poor compounding practices or unsuitable manufacturing conditions can lead to serious adverse effects, or even patient death. Over the past few years, the FDA has taken significant steps to modernize and clarify policies related to the quality of compounding in an effort to ensure continued access to compounded drugs, while also protecting patients from the risks of contaminated or otherwise harmful products<sup>1</sup>. FDA Draft Guidances<sup>2, 3</sup> help to clarify applicable regulatory requirements and specifically address the use and handling of container closure systems.
For the tenth consecutive year, teams from West Pharmaceutical Services are raising funds to support research at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. With the support of our families, friends and neighbors, the West team has raised nearly $1 million for Fox Chase since 2004.

The development of new biosimilar products has increased over the past several years. Europe and Asia Pacific have been leading the industry with the greatest number of biosimilars being introduced to the market. Given the demand to reduce medical costs for patients, this trend is expected to increase globally in the coming years.
