West is proud to host Pedro Sotelo and Nick Colgin from Soldiers to Summits at our Exton Headquarters. Pedro spoke during the West Employee Forum about his military experience, the difficulties he faced returning to civilian life and how Soldiers to Summits helped him break down the barriers and live a full life once again.
Said CEO Don Morel, “Of all the speakers we’ve had at West, Pedro has been one of the best. It was a remarkable speech that resonated with the West team. Pedro did an outstanding job with a story that touched on many levels and translated to personal and business goals. The Drug, Chemical & Associated Technologies Association (DCAT) Week took place in New York City the week of March 16, and again proved that this gathering is a terrific networking event for the pharmaceutical industry and its partners. Celebrating its 125<sup>th</sup> Anniversary, the association demonstrated its continued relevance and leadership in our business sector. <p>Color has a surprising number of uses in injectables packaging.</p><p>European guidance states that “similarity in packaging which contributes to medication error can be reduced by the judicious use of color on the pack” ¹. Draft guidance issued by the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA)² similarly recommends that “sponsors use color prudently to bring attention to the product name, strength, and important warning(s).” Color – when applied thoughtfully and with full awareness of the context in which the drug will be used – can be an important way for manufacturers to help practitioners and patients differentiate products and support their correct use.</p>
<p><span>Anti-VEGF therapeutics for the treatment of ophthalmic conditions such as neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME) have significantly improved patient prognoses, in some cases preventing or reversing progression to blindness. Routine injections into the eye of recombinant protein drugs such as bevacizumab, ranibizumab or aflibercept have proven to be efficacious in neutralizing the binding of over-expressed vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) proteins to their corresponding cellular receptors, thus interrupting the angiogenesis signaling pathway which otherwise leads to the disease states. In short, anti-VEGF injections are preventing or restoring vision loss for millions of people world-wide.</span></p>
