West Ambassador Interns Shadowed by STEM Academy Students

During the week of June 24 – 28, the West Ambassador Interns had the opportunity to mentor a group of high school seniors from the Downingtown S.T.E.M. Academy. The students were participating in a practicum at West as a requirement for graduation. During the week, each intern was assigned a S.T.E.M. student who shadowed the interns’ daily activities. We taught them about our respective departments and the responsibilities we have as part of the West team. The students also received lab tours and participated in a telepresence Lunch and Learn with the Scottsdale, Ariz., facility to learn more about West and its products.

On the last day of their practicum, the students gave presentations to the intern mentors as well as other West employees about what they had learned during the week. It was fun meeting these S.T.E.M. students and seeing how working with us benefited them during their presentations. It was surprising to discover how much the interns could learn from the S.T.E.M. students. During intern team brainstorming meetings for a project we are working on this summer, we were surprised to learn how much information and how many good ideas the students had to offer us. The week was a rewarding experience for all those involved.
