West Pharmaceuticals will participate in two poster presentation sessions at the Parenteral Drug Association (PDA) Annual Meeting, taking place March 16-18, 2015 in Las Vegas. During the meeting, West will also showcase innovations in integrated drug packaging and delivery systems that help ensure the quality, safety and efficacy of injectable drug products for pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturers worldwide at booth #405.

Colleagues from West’s Puerto Rico facility joined Johnson & Johnson for the 10<sup>th</sup> annual Tour de Cure Aguadilla cycling event to benefit the American Diabetes Association. Johnson & Johnson hosted the event at their LifeScan operations and brought in over 1,300 racers–raising nearly $100,000 for the cause.
Selecting a container closure system (CCS) is an important part of the pharmaceutical commercialization process. It is important to ensure that the components selected are compatible with the drug product to be packaged; however, it is equally important to ensure that the components are compatible with each other. Here we provide background on the importance of correct pairing between vials and stoppers and showcase <a href="/products/vial-containment-solutions/stoppers/4040-lyotec-lyophilization-elastomer-stoppers">lyophilization stoppers V-50-I (13mm) and S-87-I (20mm) in the 4040/40 Gray formulation</a> that can be paired with any vial blowback geometry.

In 2011, the US FDA issued an advisory regarding the potential formation of glass lamellae in vials containing injectable drugs. This was in response to several drug recalls in 2010-11. The number of glass-related drug recalls has since declined greatly. This no doubt is due to key actions taken by pharmaceutical manufacturers before the drug goes to market, even during the development phases.
