Standing Together for Patients: West Supports the CHOP Cure Sickle Cell Walk for the Third Consecutive Year

At West, nurturing a culture of philanthropy and community involvement is one of the defining characteristics of our company. Our culture of giving was reflected in action as West team members participated in the CHOP Cure Sickle Cell Walk earlier this year, an event dedicated to advancing research, care, and hope for individuals living with sickle cell disease.

For the third consecutive year, West proudly served as the presenting sponsor of the walk, underscoring our ongoing commitment to supporting innovation and expanding access to care for patients and families affected by this lifelong condition.

West’s Sanjeev Seenath, PhD, Head of Medical Affairs, addressed participants, families, clinicians, researchers, and community advocates gathered in support of CHOP’s Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center. During his remarks, he announced our donation to the Center, reinforcing West’s long-term partnership and dedication to advancing progress in sickle cell care.

Advancing Innovation Through Collaboration

Sickle cell disease remains a complex, lifelong condition requiring comprehensive and coordinated care. Yet today, the field stands at a pivotal moment. Breakthroughs in research and therapeutic innovation are reshaping what is possible, offering renewed hope to patients and families around the world.

At West, we believe meaningful progress happens through collaboration.

“Our commitment is more than funding,” Dr. Seenath shared at the event. “It reflects our belief in the power of science, partnership, and community to change lives.”

By supporting leading institutions such as CHOP, West helps strengthen the broader ecosystem that enables innovation to move from research to real-world impact.

Supporting Access Across the Care Continuum

Improving outcomes for individuals living with sickle cell disease extends beyond research and therapeutic development. Access to safe, compatible blood remains critical, as many patients require regular transfusions as part of their treatment.

Through our ongoing partnership with the American Red Cross and the “Blood Saves Lives: Sickle Cell Initiative,” West supports efforts to increase awareness and encourage diverse blood donation. Expanding donor diversity helps ensure patients can receive closely matched blood, reduce complications, and improve long-term outcomes.

These efforts show our broader commitment to supporting patients across the entire care continuum from innovation and drug development to delivery systems and access.

A Shared Commitment to Progress

The CHOP Cure Sickle Cell Walk brings together patients, families, caregivers, clinicians, researchers, sponsors, and volunteers that are each united for a shared purpose. The event was both a celebration of resilience, and a powerful reminder that sustained advocacy, funding, and collaboration are essential to accelerating progress.

“We are at an extraordinary moment in the history of sickle cell disease,” Dr. Seenath noted. “Advances in research, innovation in treatment, and growing awareness are bringing us closer than ever to transformative therapies and ultimately, a cure.”

Every step taken at the walk symbolizes hope. Every dollar raised supports continued research and expanded access to care. Every partnership strengthens the path forward.
