The Tech Group has been named among the “Best Places to Work” for large companies (250-999 employees) in Phoenix, Arizona, by the Phoenix Business Journal. Tech Group, which ranked 18th in the category, is the only manufacturing company named among the selections that also included categories for micro, small, midsize and extra-large.
“For us this is a pleasant surprise,” said Mike Treadaway, Vice President and General Manager, Tech Group. “We weren’t sure what would happen when we decided to participate, but we’re pleased to know that our employees place us among the top companies in the area.”
Treadaway says that excellent employee communication, as well as a high degree of employee engagement and involvement in Lean programs at all facilities has helped employees make a difference.

With the help of the FDA’s expedited programs for approval, a new wave of high-value biologic drugs is on the rise in the pharma industry.1 These drugs require cryogenic storage (-80oC to -180oC) to maintain stability. USP General Chapter<382> <em>Elastomeric Component Functional Suitability in Parenteral Product Packaging/Delivery Systems</em> is slated to become official on December 1, 2025. This allows five years from the date of publication in December of 2020 for stakeholders to implement the new testing requirements for full compliance. While that date seems to be far off in the future, there has been interest in early adoption of the new chapter and implementation of the various tests it requires.
From August 5-6, 12 employees from West’s Grand Rapids facility participated in a 200 mile, overnight relay race. The Fred 200 Mile Relay spans the Fred Meijer White Pine Trail through Comstock Park and Cadillac, MI. This was the third year that our Grand Rapids, Michigan facility coordinated a team for the Relay.
Overview of EU GMP Annex 1<br />EU GMP Annex 1 is the European Union’s guidelines for good manufacturing practice (GMP) of sterile medicinal products for human and veterinary use.<sup>1</sup> It provides specific requirements for the manufacture of sterile medicinal products, including principles for cleanroom and clean zone design, personnel experience/qualification, and monitoring of manufacturing environments, just to name a few. The objective is to ensure product quality and potency, as well as patient safety, by minimizing risks of microbial, particulate and endotoxin/pyrogen contamination through manufacturing and environmental controls.<br />In August 2022, the final draft of EU GMP Annex 1 was released after years of development and took effect on 25 August 2023. In this blog, a summary of the key changes of relevance to primary packaging components and how West can help with the implementation will be discussed.
