From June 2-4, West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. made its debut at CPhI Istanbul—a leading trade show in the Eurasia region. Each year, CPhI attracts approximately 4,000 professionals—bringing together local and regional drug manufacturers with global suppliers of raw materials, machinery, packaging solutions and contract services.
Sales, marketing and technical customer service teams welcomed visitors from all over the world at the West booth and shared the company’s recent innovations, while also discussing general trends in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industry.
Simon Meurer, Manager, TCS, presented Primary Packaging Solutions for (Bio-) Pharmaceutical Applications and addressed ways in which to reduce regulatory and supply chain risk by integrating high-quality components and processes.
The event offered a unique opportunity to exchange ideas with technology leaders and experts from across multiple markets within the pharmaceutical industry. Additionally, West attendees were given the opportunity to join educational sessions about key trends in the global pharmaceutical market.
Events like CPhI Istanbul make it possible for West to share the company’s latest developments among new audiences and engage in an important dialogue with our industry peers.
West looks forward to presenting at CPhI Europe, which takes place October 13-15 in Madrid.
It’s official – the West Exton Headquarters building has been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification from the US Green Building Council. LEED is an internationally recognized accreditation program that rewards best-in-class strategies and practices for the design, construction, operations and maintenance of environmentally friendly buildings. The Gold certification demonstrates to customers and the community that West is committed to its goals of sustainability.
Extractables and leachables (E&L) pose a potential risk to patient safety. Both pharmaceutical companies and regulatory agencies have rising concerns regarding E&L, which has led the <em>Center for Drug Evaluation</em> under the China Federal Drug Administration (CFDA) to release a new standard for public comment (December 30, 2016): <em>Technical Guideline for Compatibility Study of Chemicals and Elastomer Closures.</em> The compatibility study discussed therein focused on E&L.
The other West Ambassador interns and I can all agree that this experience is far from what we imaged, in fact it is much more. From the West without Borders picnic to being assigned various projects, we are learning there are many aspects of a being part of a team in a global company.

This allows five years from the date of publication in December of 2020 for stakeholders to implement the new testing requirements for full compliance. While that date seems to be far off in the future, there has been interest in early adoption of the new chapter and implementation of the various tests it requires.
