We are proud to announce that our 2019 Corporate Responsibility Report has been published and is now live on the West website. In its fourth year, West’s 2019 Corporate Responsibility Report provides insight into West’s initiatives in Environmental Sustainability, as well as five other impact pillars – Health and Safety; Quality; Compliance and Ethics; Diversity and Talent; and Philanthropy.
Corporate Responsibility (CR) has been part of West’s DNA throughout our more than 95-year history. We are guided by our mission to contain and deliver injectable therapies to our customers and the patients we jointly serve across the globe. Delivering on this mission using sustainable business practices is critical and has been a long-standing imperative at West. We embrace this responsibility and strive to be good stewards in all our business decisions—from the raw materials we use, to our production and manufacturing techniques, to how we package and distribute our products.
After outperforming our prior five-year goal targets well ahead of schedule, in 2019 we established a new set of five-year goals, and we are proud of our progress. In 2019, we were recognized for the great strides we have made in our CR Program by several influential organizations, including Newsweek and Investor’s Business Daily.

In October 2017, PDA (Parenteral Drug Association), held a joint workshop with PQRI (Product Quality Research Institute) entitled: <strong>Container Closure, Devices and Delivery Systems: Compatibility and Material Safety Workshop. </strong><br /><br />
West’s Glen Zimmermann, Director, Sales & Marketing, Administration Systems, and Alvaro Estrada, Senior Director, Strategic Program Management and Technical Operations, will present, “Considerations for Integrated Drug Delivery Systems:<em> </em>Exploring new technology and innovation in injectable drug therapy devices”<em> </em>at the ISPE-DVC January Program Meeting on January 15, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
A key element of West’s commitment to a safe and efficient delivery of drug products is staying abreast of industry developments, and being prepared to help customers navigate them. Recently Dow Corning introduced a new product - Dow Corning® 366 35% Dimethicone NF Emulsion.
The presence of particulate matter (PM) in parenteral drug products is a well-known challenge for pharmaceutical companies due to the potential quality and safety risks involved. In biotherapeutics, critical attributes related to efficacy, potency, clinical safety, and immunogenicity can be affected by PM.<sup>1-3 </sup><br />PM is defined as extraneous mobile undissolved particles (excluding gas bubbles) that are unintentionally present in solutions.<sup>4</sup><br />Several USP chapters describe the measurement of PM, namely:
