As part of our West without Borders team member led giving program, West’s Korea team recently kicked off their first Food Drive event in Anseong, Gyeonggi in South Korea. All 15 West team members participated and collected over 170 kg (385 lbs) of food items for ten local families that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, some families within this community in Korea have struggled financially, creating even more challenges to overcome. Having an awareness of this need in their community, our Korea team took the initiative to come together as One West Team to support them.
Claire Kim, Finance Specialist, led the Food Drive effort amongst our team members and partnered with the Anseong Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center, an organization that supports multicultural families. They helped identify ten families that were in most need of support, and prepared food packages weighing approximately 10 kg (about 22 lbs) and consisting of packets of rice and seven other types of dried food items and personally delivered the donated packages to each of these families.
Having just joined the West Family in April 2019, this is the first time our Korean team took part in the annual Food Drive. Despite being a small team, the generosity shown and efforts taken by the Korean team for their community during such difficult times is a great example of our commitment to make a positive impact through the strongly embedded culture of giving at West.

From all corners of the globe, our team members banded together to uplift their local communities during our Sixth Annual Global Food Drive. The COVID pandemic has contributed to a severe increase in global food insecurity, due to loss of incomes, disruptions in food supply chains, and other factors resulting from COVID. Our communities are in acute need of our help more than ever.
Working at West means being part of a culture of giving and working by the side of the communities where we operate. Our team members are passionate about making a difference and donate considerable time and resources through our corporate giving and volunteer programs. West’s giving strategy focuses on three elements: corporate giving through direct charitable gifts made by West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc., scholarships and matching gifts awarded through the Herman O. West Foundation, an independently managed 501(c)(3) entity and our team member-led giving program, West without Borders*.
West is honored to be a recipient of the Philadelphia Business Journal’s 2019 Faces of Philanthropy Award. The honor was presented to West at the Business Journal’s Faces of Philanthropy Awards Breakfast on April 11, 2019 in Philadelphia, PA.
Our commitment to philanthropy has been embedded in West’s culture for more than 95 years, and is an integral part of our overall Corporate Responsibility Program. In particular, 2019 was a banner year for philanthropy at West. Our team members closed out the decade with considerable personal investments in both time and resources dedicated to improving their local communities and promoting a healthier world. Our Culture of Giving is a key aspect of the team member experience at all of West’s global sites.
This past February, our team members around the world came together to help fight hunger in their local communities during our fifth annual global food drive. As the global community navigates the evolving challenges of the COVID-19 situation, having a stable food supply is even more important. We are proud of our team members for their incredible generosity. Their donations are needed now more than ever.
