Corning® Valor® Glass Vials

<b>21st Century Drugs Require a 21st Century Glass</b>

Why Do Glass Vials Matter?

Over the past few decades, significant progress has been made in the biopharmaceutical industry with advancements in biological drugs, filling lines, and drug delivery systems. However, the glass vials used to contain these drug products have remained largely unchanged since the introduction of borosilicate glass vials over 100 years ago. Traditional borosilicate glass vials are susceptible to quality issues, such as cosmetic defects, vial damage and glass particles that are generated in fill-finish operations. Additionally, borosilicate glass can delaminate on the drug-contact surface. Issues like delamination, glass particles, and cracked containers have led to drug recalls and pose a threat to drug product sterility.

Five Product Attributes of Corning Valor Glass Vials

1

Eliminates Delamination

Valor Glass is chemically durable with uniform surface chemistry that eliminates risk of delamination

2

Resists Damage and Breakage

Valor Glass is exceptionally strong to protect valuable drugs and reduce downtime due to glass-related interventions.

3

Prevents Cracks

Vial damage on commercial filling lines can create sub-visible cracks that can compromise drug sterility. In laboratory testing, Valor Glass vials provided at least  30% protection1 against cracks versus conventional borosilicate glass vials.

4

Reduces Glass Particulate Generation

Valor Glass vials have a low coefficient of friction exterior surface that reduces particulate generation on commercial filling lines.

5

Enhanced Performance

Corning’s proprietary low coefficient-of-friction coating on Viridian Vials enables higher line speeds and reduces the need for intervention due to vial jams, tip overs and glass breakage. Valor Vials can improve filling line efficiency by up to 50%2 compared to conventional borosilicate vials.
