This spring, West team members in Jersey Shore, PA hosted an annual raffle featuring some outstanding prizes in support of Camp Victory, a camp designed especially for children with special needs. Children who live with chronic health problems, physical or mental disabilities, or the aftermath of catastrophic illness, know lifelong challenges. Camp Victory was built for these children. West’s Jersey Shore team has supported the important mission at Camp Victory through their West without Borders employee-led fundraising campaign for more than 40 years.
This year’s raffle featured prizes such as trips to Atlantic City, NJ and the Finger Lakes region of New York; tickets to sporting events including a Pittsburgh Steelers game, Phillies game, Penn State football game and NASCAR race; amusement park tickets and gift cards; and vacation days. In total, the raffle and other fundraising activities raised an impressive $16,150! This donation will be matched by the Herman O. West Foundation, ultimately providing Camp Victory with over $32,000.
Money raised by our team in Jersey Shore will provide funds for many of Camp Victory’s essential programs, including waterfront activities like swimming, boating and fishing; arts and crafts activities like painting, ceramics and woodworking; a challenging obstacle course that features a climbing wall and zip line; an exciting environmental education program; and many recreational activities like biking, hiking, archery and other sports.
In addition to raising funds, several West team members volunteered their time to help the camp prepare for the camping season. During a week in April, groups of 4-6 team members traveled to Camp Victory each day to perform tasks like raking, mulching, painting, cleaning and more!
The funds raised, and time volunteered for Camp Victory has a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of hundreds of children with special needs each year. Many thanks to our team members in Jersey Shore for their generosity and commitment to such an important cause in their community!

In 2004, Camp Victory, which is located in Millville, Pennsylvania, and operates camps for children who live with chronic health disadvantages including spina bifida, autism and cancer, added a wheel-chair friendly treehouse to their “Wish List” of needs. The tree house came with a hefty price tag and for several years, it sat on the list untouched. Just when Camp Victory was about to remove the treehouse from the wish list, it received a call from West’s CEO Don Morel and the campaign to build “Uncle Walt’s Treehouse” was born.
<em>As we continue the 10<sup>th</sup> Anniversary of the West without Borders fundraising campaign, let’s take a look back at what the partnership with Camp Victory. The partnership has existed formally for West since 2007 when “Uncle Walt’s Treehouse” was built thanks to donations from West team members, and informally for many volunteers long before that, has meant to team members from the Jersey Shore and Williamsport plants.</em>
Camp Victory, which is located in Millville, Pennsylvania, operates camps for children with special needs and children who live with chronic health disadvantages including spina bifida, autism and cancer. In 2007, West donated the funding and manpower needed to build a wheel-chair accessible tree house and has maintained an affiliation with the camp ever since. So when Camp Victory sent out a call for fundraising as part of its 2013 Corporate Sponsorship Program, West was pleased to become a Corporate Partner with a donation of $25,000.
We are excited to announce that thanks to the overwhelming support of our team members over the last 18 years, West’s donations to Camp Victory have now surpassed the $1 Million dollar mark! <br />Camp Victory, “a special place for special children,” is a camp located in Millville, PA (near West’s Jersey Shore and Williamsport sites) that serves as a fun camp retreat for children living with chronic health challenges. While at Camp Victory, a specialized staff ensures the children receive the greatest possible care, support and personal growth, while having much fun and making many friends.<br />Camp Victory hosted its first group of campers in 1994 and has grown steadily into the impressive facility and program it is today and has hosted over 30,000 overnight campers and counselors. Daily activities for campers include a variety of options, including archery, waterfront, challenge course, arts and crafts, and much more.
