Recently, 16 of the interns from the 2019 West Ambassador Internship Program visited two West sites in Jersey Shore and Williamsport, Pennsylvania. As interns from the corporate headquarters, the tours of the two local manufacturing locations offered a unique perspective to contrast the corporate experience. During the Jersey Shore and Williamsport tours, the interns were given a different experience to visualize the making of the product itself.
As an intern for West, one will often stumble across stoppers distributed during product training and experience pictures of the products showcased across the corporate walls. This week, the two tours brought a completely new perspective of working for a pharmaceutical services company to life and enabled the Exton interns to experience firsthand the product manufacturing process.
The high level of importance placed on safety attire also contributed to the excitement of the hands-on experience. As an ISO 9001 Certified Facility, Jersey Shore has a large focus on quality management in their production. Particulate matter inside of the facility must be controlled to maintain the high quality of the product. Each of the interns were required to wear gowns, safety glasses, plastic footwear covering, hair nets and beard nets before entering the facility to help reduce the risk of particulate matter.
“It was interesting to see what actually goes on inside of a manufacturing plant and how many health, safety and sanitary precautions are taken in order to be effective,” said Procurement intern, Sam Vogel.
After Wednesday’s trip, the 16 West interns had an entirely new understanding of West’s products, as well as the relationship between corporate and manufacturing operations.
<span style="color: black;">The final week of the Ambassador Internship program is coming to a close, and the 31 students who have been hard at work since June now have the opportunity to showcase what they have learned and reflect upon the entire experience during the program wrap-up. </span>
<p><span style="background: white;">The West Ambassador Internship Program is a well-established summer intern program that traditionally runs for ten weeks from the end of May to the beginning of August. Interns are key contributors to our company and this fully paid internship program is instrumental in shaping future careers. We value the insight and fresh perspective our interns bring to the table. Each year, the goal of the program is to give real-world practical experience to college students that are near entry level employment, to give them an opportunity to work alongside industry experts.</span><span> We work by the side of our interns to ensure they have <span style="background: white;">the opportunity to learn, discover and apply new found knowledge within their fields.</span></span></p><p><span style="background: white;">This summer, the 2019 intern class consisted of 24 interns across the US, 16 of them residing at the global headquarters in Exton, Pennsylvania. The remaining eight interns were stationed at other West US locations in the offices of Tempe, Scottsdale and Phoenix, Arizona, as well as Kinston, North Carolina and Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania. </span></p>
West’s Global 2016 Internship Program has, once again, quickly come to a close. This year a group of over 40 interns, chosen from a pool of 1,156 applicants, provided a wealth of knowledge, new perspectives, and unique strengths and skill sets to the business. Interns were placed at our West locations around the globe.
Last month, interns from Exton and the Washington, New Jersey Innovation Center, journeyed to West’s Jersey Shore manufacturing plant—that everyone soon learned was not at the beach. The visit provided an ideal opportunity to witness the operations of West’s manufacturing business. Upon arrival, interns completed the gowning process in order to adhere to the plant’s safety and quality standards. Then, after listening to a brief presentation on the history and differentiating capabilities of the facility, began the tour.
For 10 years, West has offered a summer internship in many of its U.S. locations. The Ambassador Internship Program has grown from hiring two interns in its first year to hiring 38 interns in 2018. <br />
