In the latest installment of our video series, West on the Road, we travel across the Atlantic to our manufacturing facility in Eschweiler, Germany. There we meet Manager of Process Engineering Martin Rothstein, who says he’s impressed at how often he has encountered West products in his private life, whether visiting a family member in the hospital or during a vaccination appointment for one of his two small children.
Rothstein and the teams at the Eschweiler facility produce high-value pharmaceutical packaging products, turning materials into high-quality elastomeric stoppers, plungers and other components for the biotech and pharmaceutical industries. With the biopharmaceutical industry experiencing a shift toward patient-centered, quality care, it is increasingly important to maintain strict manufacturing processes to decrease risk. With this in mind, Rothstein explains that for many customers, it’s important to work with a provider such as West that manufacturers all of the various packaging components for a drug product under one roof, ensuring minimal risk.
The teams at Eschweiler have a long history of providing high-quality components; they possess a deep knowledge of the production process and are able to provide the right support to the customers to help them improve patient care around the world. Check out this new video to learn more about the work being done at West’s Eschweiler facility and visit our Careers page to learn more bout working at West in Germany.
A huge congratulations to our own Mike Treadaway, Vice President & General Manager, Contract Manufacturing, who finished the 35th annual London Marathon on April 18, 2016!
With the growth of gene and cell therapies, there is an increased need to characterize container closure systems (CCS) at the low temperatures experienced during their lifecycles: ultra-low (-80°C) for genes and cryogenic (-180°C) for cells. West’s Integrated Solutions platform includes the state-of-the-art container closure integrity (CCI) capabilities needed for these therapies.
On November 14, World Diabetes Day will be observed around the globe. Diabetes is a growing issue, with more than 415 million adults living with the disease, a number that is expected to increase to 642 million – or 1 in 10 adults – by 2040.
Recently, there has been increased scrutiny from regulatory authorities to quantify and qualify subvisible particles in biopharmaceutical products. Such particles, which can cause a protein to denature, are of concern to pharmaceutical manufacturers since they can affect the efficacy of the drug product. As regulatory bodies continue to raise the bar on quality, industry is looking for “zero defect” and particle free components as well as a way to minimize quality variation.
As this year’s annual West without Borders campaign begins to wind down, West colleagues at the Exton, Pa., headquarters spent June 22 at the Lionville YMCA raising funds for <a href="http://cure4cam.org/"><span style="color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;">Cure4Cam</span></a> and <a href="http://www.miracleinmotion.org/Home_Page.php"><span style="color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;">Miracle in Motion</span></a>.
